The Social Entrepreneur Kenton Lee created an affordable shoe that is for the growing children around the world. A small correction – it is for the children who cannot afford to change shoes as constantly as the growth of their feet demand. Again, not all kids around the world can afford to have shoes, making them prone to different infections, injuries, and pains.
A native of Nampa, Idaho in his late twenties, Lee wanted to develop products that help people all over the world. While walking in Nairobi, Kenya in 2007, Lee noticed a little girl struggling with small sized shoes. He just asked himself “What if there was a shoe that could adjust and expand—so kids always had a pair of shoes that fit?”
Back to the US, he asked the same question to lead to several different shoe companies and cobblers. As expected, none were inclined to experiment with this weird idea of “The Shoe That Grows.” He roped in like-minded people to make many different prototypes. It took five long years to produce one that fits into his concept, and the Shoe That Grows was born. The shoes can grow five sizes in five years.
Through its adjustable sizing, mothers can save the cost of buying new shoes for their children every year. These shoes protect their feet from harmful bacteria and sharp rocks.
Lee wants more kids and teens to gain a passion for service and social entrepreneurship. The design comes from small size (to be worn from Kindergarten to 4th Grade) and large size (suitable from 5th Grade to 9th Grade). The idea is that the whole time kids are in school, they will have a pair of shoes that fit their fast-growing feet. He is keen on helping poor people with innovative solutions.
He is helping over two billion people in the world suffering from soil-transmitted parasites and diseases, especially in Ecuador, Haiti, Ghana, and Kenya.
